Rumor Mill
Friday, January 12th, 2007
Well this rumor has popped up a couple of times in the last week, most recently this morning on The Morning Drive on Sirius Satelite Radio’s NASCAR channel No. 128.
They reported this morning that in the 2007 Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway in July, that TNT, the broadcaster of that event, is thinking of airing the race in its entirety, with no commercials.
Sounds unbelievable doesn’t it? Well, don’t think that the race will go on with out some sort of sposorship. TNT is thinking of running the race non-stop with the advertisers little transparent images in the lower corners of the screen instead of breaking away to commercial break.
Well, sounds like a good idea, but I don’t see sponsors falling for it though. I can’t see them trading a 30 second or full minute commercial for a little transparent logo in the corner as they sponsor the “next 25 laps”. I can see this as a add on for advertising for during the race, but not totally replacing it. Besides, when would we be able to go to the bathroom?
Till the next Pit Stop…..
