Dale Earnhardt Jr. leaving DEI

by Scott Thompson

Major news concerning Dale Earnhardt JR. has just been released, as we have just learned that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will leave DEI, a company built by his father, and will race the NEXTEL circuit with his own company JR Motorsports starting in the 2008 season. JR Motorsports races the Busch series at this time. Martin Truex Jr. will leave with Earnhardt. An official announcement will be made on Thursday morning.

For months everone was speculating if Teresa Earnhardt, Dale Sr.’s wife, would give in and let Dale Jr. have a majority of the company that he started to pass on to his children. It seems that this move may cripple DEI as far as racing goes, but may survive on the #3 and Dale Earnhardt trademarks for a few more years. No comment has been made from the DEI side on this issue, but I am sure one will follow soon.

It is also believed that Junior’s sponsor, Budweiser, will follow him to his new team also. Given that Junior has a legit and major sponsor and the fact that his Busch team is doing well, I expect great things next year from JR Motorsports.

Till the next Pit Stop…..
