Is It Junior’s Turn?

by
Dale Jr

As the Daytona 500 draws nearer, the same thought keeps churning around in my head and I am sure it passes through yours too. Is this the year that Dale Jr. finally puts everything together and takes home the Nextel Cup Championship?

Is this the year that Junior pops out of the shadow of his Dad and takes the reigns of his team and brings home his first championship? With only 17 wins in his eight year career, it will take more than 2 wins to get there.

Dale Jr’s average finish last year was about 13th. This will definitely need to improve into the Top 10 or even Top 5 to put him in a good position for the Chase. To achieve that Dale must have the most consistent year of his career. Can this be accomplished, it can if mother Teresa stays out of the way and gives her full support.

Dale Sr. was a guy that was either liked or not liked. Junior, I think, is either liked or really liked! Which is evident by the Most Popular Driver awards sitting on his mantle. How does this play into a championship? Imagine traveling to every track in NASCAR and feeling like it is your home turf because of all the love given by the fans! That can’t hurt, can it?

I don’t know if this is Dale Jr’s year or not, but this year would be a great year for him to step up to the plate and hit a grand slam. Good luck Junior.

Till the next Pit Stop…..

I have often wondered if all of his off-track involvements (the commercials, the music videos, etc) distract too much from his actual job. I feel like he really hasn’t lived up to his full potential, but I’m not sure what is missing.

That is the point that Teresa Earnhardt brought up.

My response is to cancel all personal engagments, TV ads, interviews, everything and see how long the sponsors stay. To me it is part of the job and I think that Junior can handle it, provided he is not overloaded by deals made by the management. Give him part ownership then he can make the deals with sponsors that he know will not overload him.

Thanks for the comment and comebace anytime to the Pit Stop Report…..

I hope so. I’d like to see Greg Bifell out there but as long as it’s not #24, I’d take Dale Jr. :)
