Michael Waltrip in accident
Last Saturday night Michael Waltrip fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his Toyota Land Cruiser into a telephone pole. An anonymous witness said that she feared the worst when she happened upon the scene of the accident.
After calling 911, the witness noticed Waltrip climbing out of the wrecked SUV. “He was bleeding from his forehead and had some cuts on his fingers and arms,” she said. “I told him `You are really lucky you are alive. I didn’t think anybody was alive in there.’ We sort of talked for a minute or two, and I told him 911 was on the way, and he just turned around and started walking home.”
Waltrip stated that he walked home to figure out what to do and that he wasn’t running away from anything when he went home. When the State Police found him the next day they issued him a citation for reckless driving and failing to report an accident.
After a pretty bad start as a NASCAR owner/driver, this was the last thing that Waltrip needed to add to woes this season. We hope to see Michael this weekend in Texas.
