No gray areas anymore
NASCAR has stated in the past that there is no gray area when it comes to the Car of Tomorrow and the rules that go along with it. With that the “if you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin’ ” mentality is a thing of the past. Or is it?
Last week Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon cars’ failed pre-race inspection and they were not allowed to go onto the track on Friday. They were allowed to race after the infrigments were corrected, but they started at the back of the field. This is not the problem, the problem is what is wishy-washy NASCAR going to do about it?
When Junior’s team was caught earlier this year, he lost 100 driver points, his crew chief for six weeks and a hundred grand. The money isn’t anything to these guys, and Dale Jr.’s crew chief, Tony Eury Jr. was back at the shop running things to get ahead for the rest of the year.
So what will NASCAR do with these Hendricks boys? Probably not much. Probably about the same as Junior’s team was handed.
Now what does need to happen is a statement from NASCAR saying anymore infractions from here on out will more severe. Like the whole car, driver and crew banned from the track for that weekend and at least the next two weekends. Yes that would not be fair to the fans who came to see their driver and find out he isn’t there, but that might also put the pressure back on the teams to do things right so they don’t dissappoint the fans like that.
Whatever NASCAR decides to do for punishment for these infractions, it better not be any less than what Dale Jr. received. If it is, than the fans better ask NASCAR to re-evaluate their governing body and find one that is consistant and fair.
Till the next Pit Stop…..
